What I’ve Learned From Webinars:
I have wasted too many hours watching webinars. I have learned a lot from them, but very little of it has helped me personally in any way shape or form. I have come to realize many things about webinars themselves, and I hope if I ever make one that I will keep these things in mind when thinking about my viewers on the other side.
When I started looking online for a way to make money from home, I was bombarded by videos. I watched many that I knew from “get go” were too-good-to-be-true hype videos about crazy money you could make online if you would just get “all in.” I signed up for a monthly membership with an affiliate network, and I figured if I could just get started and break through, I would work hard enough and make enough money to be part of the “in” crowd.
How Can I Get “In?”
I watched video after video from the people who were “in” and learned absolutely nothing about how I could get there. I just saw a bunch of people having parties and sitting by pools. After that didn’t work out, I sat back for a while and gave up on the network marketing gig. I still desperately wanted to figure out how to make money from home.
Scrolling through facebook, I saw a bootcamp offered by a Christian motivator/successful business woman. I thought, “She’s a Christian and she really seems to want to help people. I have found something of real value this time…” I watched yet more videos. I did the 30 days of motivation, and I even received a call from a coach. I was flying high when he said how great I could be at coaching others. Then came the punch to the gut. I would need to come up with $2,000!!!! I felt disappointed, but even more, I felt STUPID! I hung up the phone, and I bent over bawling – like a standing fetal position – seriously!
The Sucker (Me) Gets Punched Again:
I was so desperate to find “the thing” that would work, and the key to unlock the online-money-making door that I kept getting blind sided by the BIG sales pitch. Every time I watched a video or received a motivational email, I actually felt like I was making progress. I thought this phone call was what it all had led up to – my big moment. I was wrong yet again, but this time it really hurt. I was desperate! I was also broke – in more ways than one. I’ve said it before, but it is probably a good thing I was broke during these experiences because I probably would have gotten hustled and lost serious cash.
One Door Closes:
I stopped looking for ways to make money online for awhile. I didn’t like the people by the pool or even the Christian motivator. I was angry at them, and I stopped wanting to be one of them. There are people out there like me, who have little to no money, but who have fire. What we have to say is valuable, but I don’t want to trick people into spending a lot of money to get it. My desire is to make money with this blog, yes, but at what cost?!
My health got worse during this time, and I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. I started looking for ways to get better. I started finding real women with real blogs. They were making money with their blogs, but I didn’t feel like they were only out to get it. I got a lot for free – support, solutions, and inspiration. I didn’t have to buy anything to get that! Wow!
Another Opens:
Webinars to me are like billboards for spaceships. The people giving the webinars are telling you to “Come on up.” They might throw you a step stool, but if you can’t come up with the cash to buy your own ship, you are out of luck. You would be better off finding a few blogs that give you pieces and instructions to build your own spaceship step by step. They break it down to my level. That’s what I am doing. It takes longer to get to space this way, but at least I feel like I am on my way.
When I get my spaceship going, I want to be a part of helping people get theirs. I’m not sitting in a pool telling you to get “all in” so that I can get mine and most people I “get” end up with nothing. I don’t want to be that person. I want to share whatever I can that can help you. No tricks.
Honestly, I still haven’t found my way, but there are things that I know that I don’t want to be. I don’t want you to have to watch an hour long webinar to get one little tip that you can actually implement. I want to give you the tips for free and if I ever come up with a product great enough to try to sell with a webinar, I’ll just talk about it for 15 minutes and let you decide.
God Bless,
